One of the greatest benefits of running is friendship! Rob and I traveled up to Ephraim, Wisconsin, to run the Door County Half Marathon with other couple friends of ours. It was an absolutely perfect weekend! Between the sunny weather, phenomenal food and drinks, and time with wonderful friends (and twin baby boys), I could not have asked for a better weekend! Special thanks to Donna and Mike for hosting!
In the photo below from left to right showing off our shirts and medals are: Donna, Lori, myself, and Rob. Not to brag, but we all did GREAT! (Photo credit - Mike)
Jim and Mike watched the babies and cheered us on during the race! We couldn't have done it without them!
This wasn’t my best race, but I was very pleased with my results given the challenging course. My official finishing time was 1:50:56, and my stats are as follows:
I would highly recommend this race! Here are a few of my favorite highlights from the half marathon:
Beautiful views and scenery
Mostly shaded course
Hills for those looking for a challenge (there are LOTS of downhills too)
Awesome long sleeve tech tees and finishing medals
Plenty of time for packet pick-up (1:00 – 9:00 pm plus packet pick-up the morning of the race)
Very informative and organized email communication
Aid stations every couple miles, well-stocked with water and Gatorade
Post-race snacks (ie bananas and 3 kinds of cookies) plus beer for those 21+
Amazing support of volunteers!
Door County is a fun place to be! Lots of fun shops and many great places to grab food and drinks!
Unfortunately, all great weekends come to an end. I will cherish all of the happy memories that were made and will look forward to our next adventures!
